Grand Openings Can be Murder (Bean to Bar Mysteries Book 1)
by Amber Royer
“ Chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate comes together in this solid start to a new cozy series. ”
– Books a Plenty
“Grand Openings Can Be Murder by Texas author Amber Royer combines my love of Galveston, chocolate, and the suspense of living through a hurricane.”
– Forgotten Winds
“It is difficult to put into words why Felicity quickly won my heart. Maybe it is because she is clearly talented, smart, and beautiful, yet is self deprecating and just a wonderfully kind human being.”
– Missus Gonzo
“One of the best new series I’ve read! Amber Royer brings the reader a mystery that keeps you guessing and turning the pages.”
– My Reading Journey
“Chocolate aside (but really, who can put chocolate aside?!), this is a fun cozy mystery with a determined protagonist to prove her innocence and solve the murder, a loveable bunny that knows when to protect his family, and a storm that could create some havoc on Galveston, Texas.”
– Storeybook Reviews
“Grand Openings Can Be Murder is the first of a series and will surely have plenty more to give.”
– The Page Unbound
“What a delicious story centered around the making of chocolate and, oh yes, a murder.”
– Maryann Writes
One of the best new series I’ve read! Amber Royer brings the reader a mystery that keeps you guessing and turning the pages.
Full of a mix of characters, sweet chocolate, and lots of clues we get a mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end making for a fun read.
As a Houston native who regularly goes to the island, I really enjoyed walking the Strand and enjoying the historical buildings through Felicity’s eyes.
I really enjoyed how the story and the mystery came together. It built up to the conclusion, much like the hurricane that thrashed Galveston.
~StoreyBook Reviews
Royer’s words spun a fabulous, fast story around murder, chocolate, and a hurricane. The setting was exceptional and brought Galveston to life.
~Forgotten Winds
It wasn’t just the many intricacies of chocolate and how it’s made, but just what makes it so delicious and how it made Felicity feel. Side note: Yes, I did go out and buy chocolate because of this.
~The Page Unbound
In addition to the characters, I really liked the trip to Galveston. I’ve been there a few times and remember The Strand and what fun it is to visit the shops and eat in some of the restaurants. Wouldn’t it be great to stop in to Greetings and Felicitations for a chocolate treat?
~Maryann Miller
70% Dark Intentions (Bean to Bar Mysteries Book 2)
by Amber Royer
. . . a well written mystery that will keep you hooked while you also drool over all the yummy chocolate. A perfect read for cozy fans. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
~Books a Plenty Book Reviews
Like great chocolate, the way all of the story elements are blended together is done masterfully.
~I Read What You Write!
Calling all chocolate lovers! This cozy series will keep you entertained and salivating over truffles, chocolate bars, and many other treats that are whipped up in the Greetings and Felicitations shop in Galveston. Too bad it isn’t a real shop that I could go visit in the future!
~Storeybook Reviews
Once again Amber Royer created a page turning mystery that keeps you guessing.
Felicity is a fun character. She can’t help getting mixed up in trouble. It kind of seems to follow her.
It is hard to know which character to like or dislike and are they involved in the murder of Fabian found outside the front door of Felicity’s shop? It takes a fair amount of digging by Felicity and Logan to get to the bottom of the murder.
Out of Temper (Bean to Bar Mysteries Book 3)
by Amber Royer
5-STAR REVIEW: OUT OF TEMPER by Amber Royer. If a light-hearted mystery is what the reader is looking for, look no further and give “Out of Temper” a try.
~Novels Alive
Amber Royer’s OUT OF TEMPER is a mystery set in a place I love – a cruise ship. Temper is the delicate way chocolate is cooled and formed into shapes. Yum.
~Here’s How It Happened
I look forward to these bean-to-bar chocolate books as chocolate is my fave. This all combines into an enjoyable story that is sure to delight fans of cozies or chocolate. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
She has fulfilled my expectations of a fun read filled with delicious chocolates, adorable furry sidekicks, colorful characters, and a conjecture that is tantalizingly just out of reach.
There are so many red herring clues that you have to put on your thinking cap to figure out who and why. I figured out the who close to when it was revealed and could guess the why once I fixated on this character.
~StoreyBook Reviews
Like small children, animals can take over a story in unpleasant ways if written too sweetly. This author made Satchmo a true character rather than an accessory or a piece of comic relief and I appreciated it immensely.
~Bibliotica
Taking to the Gulf of Mexico on a murder mystery cruise, Felicity soon finds a body with her new buddy, Satchmo, who is the dog. You really have to pay attention to this fast-moving mystery where the characters are intertwined like a spider’s web.
~Forgotten Winds
I pretty much suspected everyone except for Satchmo. I loved him. I now want to adopt a beagle.
~Maida Malby
A Shot in the 80% Dark (Bean to Bar Mysteries Book 4)
by Amber Royer
Just when I think that I cannot possibly love this series anymore we get a new one that just proves me wrong! A total must-read series. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars
~Books A Plenty Book Reviews
My favorite cover so far! They just keep getting better. A Shot in the 80% Dark was a fun and charming read. For this reader, I am impatiently waiting for the next one. It will be fun to see how my hometown plays into the mystery.
~My Reading Journeys
I enjoyed A Shot in the 80% Dark by Amber Royer, and my rating is four stars. Ms. Royer doesn’t include recipes in the book but shares a link to her website where you can get them. This is an interesting series with lots of moving pieces. I find it is original and very forward-thinking.
The Galveston setting is fun and feels so familiar and comfortable. I loved hearing about different locations and sights, even just which end of the island the characters were on as they investigated.
~Boys’ Mom Reads!
I especially admire her utilization of notoriously difficult side characters — pets and kids– to further the plot. Renoir, the museum’s cockatoo, is a scene-stealing star.
~Maida Malby
Royer’s books are the perfect weekend escapism. She has a way with words intertwining a fabulous, fast story around murder, chocolate, and yes, this time a parrot.
~Forgotten Winds
It was tough to get a handle on it. Royer would lead one way, I’d think I’d figured it out, and then she’d switch things up! That makes a mystery so much more fun, when it keeps you guessing.
~The Plain-Spoken Pen
I found this a deliciously complex story that teaches readers on several levels about cooking, pirates, and history, keeping them and keeps them engaged to the yummy end.
~Rox Burkey
There is no shortage of suspects, and while many seem unlikely, the killer does lurk among them. I wasn’t sure who to pin as the killer, and I don’t think I got this one right despite my best efforts!

A Study in Chocolate (Bean to Bar Mysteries Book 5)
by Amber Royer
Since I have read all the books in the series I like that Satchmo has returned. This one was hard to put down as are all the books in the series. If you haven’t started this series check it out!
~My Reading Journeys
The fast-paced plot kept me guessing and the clues are there for a sharp reader to follow. Ms. Royer writes a compelling mystery that is sure to appeal to fans of both chocolate and intriguing plotlines.
~Cinnamon and Sugar and a little bit of murder
Amber Royer delivers a classic whodunit and entertains readers with quirky characters and a mystery that resembles both Sherlock Holmes’s A Study in Scarlet and the game of Clue.
Reading by Moonlight
she finds herself unwittingly at the center of a puzzle with a Sherlock Holmes-obsessed murderer who wants to be the next Moriarty – and wants to cast Felicity as Sherlock.
~The Real World According to Sam
The book’s title serves as a teasing reference to the Sherlock Holmes puzzler, A Study in Scarlet, and learning the literary ties in each of the books in the series is something I look forward to as each new story drops. In this instance, Royer enhances her story with Holmes-like elements, making for a fun and entertaining mystery.
I love historic homes and the secrets that they hold. There is a lot of interesting architecture, secret passages/rooms, and so much more.
~StoreyBook Reviews
Royer deftly gives us one suspect after another, only to turn around and show us why that person couldn’t possibly be the killer. She kept me guessing!
~The Plain-Spoken Pen
Ms. Royer writes to appeal to each of the five senses in this page-turner—it smells like we’re submerged in chocolate, my favorite imagery.
~Rox Burkey
You will soon get enveloped in Royer’s way with words intertwining delving you into a fantabulous, fast-paced story around murder, and of course chocolate.
~Forgotten Winds
The pace of this book is lightning fast with little time to breathe between scenes. There is a crowd of suspects and red herrings galore.
~The Book’s Delight
Something Borrowed, Something 90% Dark (Bean to Bar Mysteries Book 6)
by Amber Royer
The mystery and plots are well-developed and make the pages turn quickly until you reach the end. Everything is solved…Then you are hoping for the next book.
For its engaging storyline, fascinating characters, well-paced action, balance of angst and humor, and swoony romance, Something Borrowed, Something 90% Dark is my favorite of the series so far.
~Maida Malby
If you love stories with strong women, chocolate, animals, an emerging love story, and a steadfast mystery then add this to your TBR.
~Forgotten Winds
I simply adore Royer’s inclusion of animals in her stories. Felicity’s bunny, Knightley, is in every book, and he’s a dear.
~The Plain-Spoken Pen
A Chocolate is Announced (Bean to Bar Mysteries Book 7)
by Amber Royer
5 stars! Return to Galveston for a surprising, locked-room murder mystery!
~Boys’ Mom Reads!
This closed-room mystery, one of my favorite kinds, had that Clue-like vibe. I haven’t read books one to six, don’t worry, they have all been added to my TBR! Lots of fun to read and I’m happy to have a new to me series to read!
